If by chance you arrive on a Thursday, visit the souq. It is really worth going out of the way for!
The souq is the weekly market, but has little to do with the European market. First one takes time and mingles and then eventually addresses business. It is not so important to have a commodity to buy or sell. Of course one must renew supplies of oil, of spices, of tea and sugar, but what matters is to talk, to listen, to chat and to learn. It is at once the café, the newspaper, the forum and the radio.
In the Draa Valley, there are 12 souqs. Everyone meets at least once a week and each palm grove has its own souq, sometimes 2.
